what is the point of posting in a channel if it gets you zero extra distribution outside of your followers? except for on channel pages which no one checks. see thread

It's about building a cozy corner. Every time we do a home feed A/B test, channel content recommendations perform worse than the control.

so we’re back to channels being hashtags, just membership gated now?

Hashtags imply distribution. Think of it like a public group chat, e.g. /six

this revelation makes me lose most of my interest in the new channel design, which i was previously very amped about. why should i put energy into cultivating a channel when it doesn’t introduce anyone to anyone through the context of a shared interest? it’s like a party where your xr glasses only let you see and hear people you’re already following. like a party where everyone who is already friends acts like they can’t see you. that ain’t cozy.

It's about a space you control (who can cast, no spam labels for members). A lot of people resonate with that.

ok i will stew on this. to me the promise of channels is a lot about having high quality but underfollowed people demonstrate value to non followers by posting bangers on a topic people care about
