When thinking about decentralized social networking, the Fediverse is taking the approach of having the content travel (I post from Mastodon, you read from Threads). I think a much better model is one where the social graph travels: when I log in on a 3rd party website, my social graph is there.

Decentralized social is more about ownership of your graph and less about distribution of content imo. Social graphs and content need to travel in contextual ways so they land in experiences that make sense. For example, if I create my whole reputation and content on a dog lovers site and then bring that reputation over to a cat lovers app… it wouldn’t be that valuable. But, owning your graph is valuable no matter the application so you can control the connection to your audience as a creator.
