Does anyone have any recommendations for memoirs of legitimately normal, regular people (not famous, not someone who had a major accomplishment but just wasn't recognized properly to be famous, someone who is genuinely just a regular everyday person you'd walk by on the street)? What makes you read books like this?

I'd never heard of James Frey until just looking him up now. Is the gist of it that he added some embellishments to his story that weren't 100% true?

More than embellishment, complete fabrications. A memoir about redemption from addiction, made him enormously famous, within a month was revealed to be false. Oprah was at the peak of her popularity and featured him on her book club. Haven’t heard of an average Joe memoir have that kind of success since.
