Is it the idea or the person? 24 hours ago @balajis.eth suggested using mods and NFTs to enhance Farcaster. A mere mention and now there’s a live working group motivated to tackle it. If a rando shared it, would it have inspired so much action? Probably not. The true effect of “influencers”. We are influenced.

Thanks for asking! Two things: 1) Dictatorship based moderation (a la Reddit) is best when channel creation is permissionless 2) NFTs don't change the dynamics in any useful way (other than inciting speculation) Here's a not-so-kosher take on nfts: https://warpcast.com/nor/0xcfa4b1

Vintage wine for example. It’s a huge market for scams. People either steal or fabricate labels from valuable bottles and sell cheap wine as the real thing. If the seller had to validate their ownership with an NFT that shows provenance and proof of ownership, they wouldn’t get away with the scam.

Nfts do nothing to solve this, a testing and certifying body would, and sure they could use a row in a database to record it

Some moderators would be capable of doing testing and certifying. For example, a group of math professors could moderate a channel and award free math credential NFTs just as math profs currently moderate mathoverflow.stackexchange.com.

Yes! Though this moves the governance problem up one level and now there’s a judge selection problem. Depending on your goal this might not be an issue, what’s your goal for what these nfts come to mean? Are they just for social signaling or are they ever a factor in control of resources?
