The EU's approach to crypto makes me lose hope for the idea of the EU as a whole.

This has nothing to do with crypto, it’s a public consultation related to processing of personal data in the context of blockchain technology. Is it really so hard to read more than one sentence?

That LinkedIn post highlights a more fundamental issue. It’d get no attention if it simply stated: “The European Data Protection Board is conducting public consultation on processing of personal data through blockchain technologies”. It’s indeed more engaging when it reads more like: “Act now, or they’ll destroy everything you love!”. 

There’s a little problem, though. Can you really provide any feedback other than “fuck the regulations, dude” if you don’t even read what’s being proposed?

I was mainly frustrated because it’s essentially yet another case of misinformation (and following the same pattern seen in more dangerous cases), and we already have enough of that. 

The guidelines also seem to be more in a spirit of “how about you don’t store sensitive data on a public blockchain for no reason” than anything else. The point of the consultation is literally to give feedback on them, so any valid concerns should be voiced, but getting too sensational about this is probably counterproductive.

May be a bit indeed. You have a valid point there.

But it's better to be an alarmist to grab attention early and react than let something progress due to not being taken seriously and get to a point where it can end up being dangerous.

The people of EUCI seem to already be on it.
