Hey, just curious, is it required to be super rich to build a car like this in the US? Cuz from where i am it costs a fortune and only available to chosen ones. Do you have taxes for JDM imports?

international imports have to be 25 years old before they're allowed to be imported..no major tax or anything. if someone builds an import they're spending more money for sure. but no, you don't have to be super rich to build a drift car in the states. we got the s13 + s14 chassis in the US, they just came with a shit engine, we didn't get sr20's. common entry level cheaper build..bmw e36, nissan 350z, nissan 240, a lot of guys will import a toyota sedan with 1jz's and drift those bc they're so reliable..cresta, cressida, jzx 100, and but yeah ALOT of nissans.. a lot of my friends are by no means rich, some guys are tho. are modified cars rare in general over there? not something you see often?

Haha, 25 years old basically says "the golden era or JDM" is free to import. We had it like that too, until the gov revoked the option to import a car from Japan. Now we can only import cars that are not older than 5 years and not more than 1.9l engine. So the old chassis are now barely available and their prices flew to the moon in several years. My altezza tripled in price since 2020 and some parts made 10x. Drifting was expensive all the time. For working class only winter drift is available now cuz it doesn't require much power, so we're building weird cars from what is available in the local market. Building a 350z or so would be super expensive (my bro builds his Z for three years already and havent participated in races yet, cuz all money os spent on the car and now we need a oil and tyre sponsors :)

that makes sense...yeah a lot of people are into american muscle bc its cheaper, but yeah we still get access to imports. that sucks about the recent law changes over there.. if i were to invest in anything that wasn't crypto or stocks, i'd probably invest in automobiles and engines.
