I think the @perl quality has been diluted over time (too much setups in 1 day, making same people repeatedly main characters). What makes a format work is mostly defined by the 'people' you select against each other and an engaging, no spam task. For that reason 1. 
2, 3 seem also a bit complicated. Simplicity wins.
