age verification is so beyond broken. had to give my passport to the customer support guy just to show by DOB this could have been a range proof

Imagine companies had to put down a bond for some duration beyond when they store sensitive customer data, and they forfeit it if they leak it. Per item of sensitive data. If we can't make money, maybe we can increase the cost. Or at the very least, we can fantasize. 🤔

If the bureaucracy can enforce AML/KYC, I'm sure they can also enforce the cost of the externality they produced too. If they wanted to.

Is that true? It scales with how many customers you have, and with how much sensitive data you decide to store. That said, I know some KYC regulations requires long term storing the documents used for verification, so it's kind of a non-starter without some reform of existing policies
