With so many freemium mobile apps depending on revenue from animated ads, and the availability of phone cameras with face recognition, I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more ads require that you stare at the screen and watch the ads to the end, Black Mirror style

On what basis would that be illegal? It’s legal for an app to push ads, and to activate Face ID on demand (many iOS apps do). iOS handles the authentication and returns a binary result to the app (pass / not pass), so it’s not like the app is capturing your face. There’s no privacy concern.

Okay that makes sense. I was just thinking about how it might come off as weird to force people to actually watch ads just to use their apps
