weed is more abused than tobacco, worsens psychological dependency on drugs, and normalizes unhealthy coping mechanisms. society has relaxed standards of responsible moderation and sobriety, and that is wrong

I imagine that by “society” you mean the US, which I cannot comment on. But I’ve lived long enough in dry parts of the Middle East and Asia (no alcohol, no weed, let alone harder drugs) that… I’ve warmed up to the societal benefits of mass abstinence from substances (even if forced, in these cases).

It didn’t affect me. I could still have the occasional drink & I don’t need the other stuff. OTOH no drunk driving, no alcohol-fueled domestic violence, no opioid epidemic, no broken families from addiction and substance abuse. I value freedom of choice and personal responsibility, but in these instances I’ve…

… seen the benefits of the reverse experiment, i.e. effective bans. Same goes for politics - I’m in favor of progressive, liberal, democratic, open societies; and yet I’ve lived my best years under “benevolent dictatorships” where politics aren’t even a concept. It’s paradoxical, I know.
