Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI was agreed on Thursday in Vilnius, Lithuania, marking a major step in aligning AI development with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Israel were among the initial signatories. 

Other signatories included Andorra, Georgia, Iceland, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, and San Marino. More countries are expected to join over the coming weeks and months.

Developed over two years with input from more than 50 countries, it aims to create a unified global, legally binding framework for AI governance.

It's kind of funny reading through it, it's like, dang, AI will be considerably more ethical than the institutions signing it. Brief overview looks basically like a framework for regulation. But I suspect the framework will be impossibly vague in practice. You literally need AI to sort the mountain of literature on AI safety and ethics, and all of it written by people who have never interacted with the level of intelligence an AGI would have. I guess it's a start.
