Starting the (book) year with End Times (no pun intended). Fascinating analysis of historical trends. The content is much more sober than the clickbaity title! https://bookshop.org/p/books/end-times-elites-counter-elites-and-the-path-of-political-disintegration/18850152

He also really humble and willing to explain and debate. Haven’t read his books but I’ve heard him interviewed a couple of times including here: https://josephnoelwalker.com/139-david-deutsch/

Something from Ted Chiang for its timelessness, or Kim Stanley Robinson’s Ministry for the Future for its being so right… (or so wrong, I guess)

I’ve recently pivoted hard back (pun intended) to physical books. Just the whole experience is different - and superior- for me, caveat of course being you can’t highlight etc. as easily.

For starters, pretty much anything by Ted Chiang is fantastic.

It’s been 20+ years so I don’t remember the book. I do remember how highly it was recommended to me and how I tried - and sadly failed - to “get” it!

Recommended. Probably quite dated in AI terms but the concept is generally interesting even outside of tech IMO.

Tested and approved ✅ Not that anything by Mozart could be a "guilty" pleasure really, but I'm guessing you mean The Turkish March? Its a bit of the odd one out on this playlist.
