Come one, come all! Supplicate before the Emperor and he shall take mercy upon your vassal state! Offer him your prime real estate that he may erect yet another tower in his name, for his glory to shine throughout the land! Hasten yourselves, lest he look upon your slothfulness with disdain and worsen your hardships!

Ackman is insufferable these days (maybe always has been, idk) But... I reckon he is unfortunately correct on this. In terms of getting out of the trade war asap, at least. Kiss the ring, spare your country some amount of economic turmoil, optics be damned

This ignores a couple of things imo: 1) Whatever is negotiated will be popular and truly beneficial for the other countries 2) The other countries can work together to find reliable trade alternatives, or inflict maximum pain on the US to cause and admin change in 3 years and ensure this never happens again.

We already see Canadians happy to support opposition rather than capitulation, hard not to imagine that sentiment isn't present in many of the other countries, especially considering how arbitrary and transparently dumb these tariffs are.

That's a good point and I think and hope that sentiment does exist elsewhere. Definitely an oversimplification to say "just make the deal to avoid the pain" -- any smart government will run the numbers and figure what level of "capitulation," if any, will be beneficial. I suspect for many countries that don't have the GDP or political will as we've seen in Canada, it will make sense to make some sort of deal. For every country, it will make sense to start building relationships elsewhere, whether they've made a deal or not. Which is just another of many marks in the column of why this is so so so dumb for the Trump admin to be doing this. But most of them don't really care about the longterm outlook of the country, at least not compared to how much they care about their own personal power and wealth
