confession: i have always (since 2010) texted through plane takeoff without turning off my phone or turning on airplane mode and not a single plane has blown up

It's actually meant for your own privacy. The equipment in the cockpit is picking up all your sms data and the pilots get to read it and laugh at you. Sometimes it's even distracting enough to delay takeoff.

No stupid you turn into an airplane that’s why it’s called AIRPLANE MODE. You guys aren’t doing it right u gotta yell AIRPLANE MODE and spin around when u turn it on *then* it works
