this is making the rounds in all my group chats, tech and non-tech alike. my initial reaction is that i don’t think the AI friend is the root issue. with crisis text line data and social platforms that detect and flag suicidal ideation, idk how character.ai’s system didn’t flag this as an high-risk user.

Those messages are brutal to read. I'm glad the AI didn't overtly encourage it but I feel like anyone motivated enough could manipulate it into 'encouraging' their suicide. Really hard to tell what kind of effect AI is going to have on mental health as AI 'relationships' become more common.
