It seems like Trump is genuinely trying to destroy the Canadian economy and might even be serious that the goal is forcibly annexing Canada. He said he’s “not expecting any concessions”(?) and now wants to “get rid of that artificially drawn” border between the two countries.

These tariffs are predicated on a nonexistent fentanyl influx from Canada to the U.S. People I know in Ottawa are genuinely alarmed and think this is for real.

It can't be overstated how fucking stupid it is to suddenly and on false pretenses tariff your allied neighbors. It's absurdly destabilizing to relations between the US and every other country in the world, all it achieves is isolating us for no long term benefits.

It's my feeling too. I can see how selfish nationalism may drive US friends and allies away.  Country level bullying is simply not acceptable.
