I feel like people just assume “marketers” are like these abstract entities that just autonomously generate growth. Like you just drop a Marketer on the team and the numbers start magically going up. Nobody has ever been able to outline a specific actionable thing that such a marketer could/would do to lead to growth. They just say “need marketers”

Yes, it’s naive. 1. If this were the case, marketers would be the highest paid people in tech. They are not. 2. Marketing enhances product market fit. You don’t market yourself to product market fit. 3. Ultimately, marketing is the founders job for a very long time.

all a marketer can do pre PMF is help with user research & hypothesis / message testing- and that basically is a founders job. super relatable given made some mistakes alongside this last couple of years..
