I feel like people just assume “marketers” are like these abstract entities that just autonomously generate growth. Like you just drop a Marketer on the team and the numbers start magically going up. Nobody has ever been able to outline a specific actionable thing that such a marketer could/would do to lead to growth. They just say “need marketers”

Fundamentally, marketing doesn’t fix a bad product, and right now the product is “bad” to the extent there is not any repeatable thing driving retention. In its current state, Farcaster is mostly a “community arbitrage” for a certain crypto-forward, early adopter, builder/builder-adjacent crowd. It can last for a while because they have runway but it’s still default dead until that gets fixed, no amount of new user signups changes that

the incentive behind this take is: "i want merkle to pay for ads and people to grow my audience" and not "i want the best for the future of farcaster and warpcast"

Yes, it’s naive. 1. If this were the case, marketers would be the highest paid people in tech. They are not. 2. Marketing enhances product market fit. You don’t market yourself to product market fit. 3. Ultimately, marketing is the founders job for a very long time.

Merkle doesn't need "marketers," they just need to take their stated "cozy corners" thesis more seriously outside of the context of an engineering problem

correct. although i believe it can work as a triad: engineer + UX/UI designer + communication. the first 2 hands on and the latter following the process and executing broadcast for awareness and community management, both within FC and on other social networks (old and new) — said this a few times, but I think Bluesky does a good job on that.
