Ok, that helps! This was the best pooling I was able to get. Most bronze I added just balled up on top. Excited to get more practice in today. Gotta cut some more metal

First contact—melting bronze at home. Struggling with getting enough heat into the piece, but it kinda works. I think I need to go hotter with the flame generally, bigger on the flame, direct the flame down into the piece, and hold it a bit further back. I’m realizing that this may be a particularly tricky joint to heat because of all the surface contact between the pieces, but hoping I can save it with another pass. Seemed like how things attached to the table played a pretty big role in heat distribution

Yes! Beers on me. Lots of practice ahead. Fired it up this evening to try melt some bronze. Here’s my SOP doc. I’ve already got some edits

I do have a frame stand which will be helpful once I have some triangles tacked up. That’s one of the mounts I plan to make first. Good Q. The blocks are something to delicately hold these thin walled tubes while I carve out the mitres with hand files. Turns out my first prototype set works better for at least one size tube I’ve got. Looks aren’t everything

Yes! Creative Friday feels flowing I love this track. The breathy recorder melody and glockenspiel + xylophone entry at 1:42…

Dope! How did you find using Plasticity? Looks like it’s good for stuff like programmatic fills and surface optimization?

No band saw here. Blocks are white wood 2x4 that I cut with a cordless circular saw set at 45deg angle and 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4” depths against a clamped square edge. Measuring was key to get my cuts to meet nicely in the middle to form nice Vs. I’ve since realized that varying the depths on a different scale would have been better, so when one side is flipped, it creates different sized holds. Rn the 1/4 + 3/4” Vs hold the same size as the pair of 1/2” Vs. This hodgepodge table came with a box of assorted accessories that look to have barely been used before. I’ve just been YouTubing to figure out how to apply them. Essentially round pucks and these aluminum arm slider things to hold things horizontally and special clamps for the vertical. Everything just locks into any 5/8” hole. Lots of leverage but doesn’t take much force at all to hold small things very securely.

I’m pumped, but couldn’t spend much time in the garage tonight. Just made sure I could turn it on and off and ran some safety tests on the connections. I’ve got a healthy fear of this thing but feeling relieved that it’s fully functioning without any apparent issues. Had a little trouble lighting at first, but found I was giving it too much gas on the torch to start. Standard operating procedure. Just documenting every single step to keep from messing anything up, before I get the hang of it. Much more to share, soon 🙏

Finally shooting flames in the garage! This is a big step for me towards my goals for the year. Got some solid SOPs documented for safely igniting and extinguishing and we’re cooking with gas. Looking forward to the weekend for some more time to start brazing. Higher

Agreed. Warmth to weight ratio off the charts. I have some really warm super insulated mittens I only use for the coldest bike rides, but they look ridiculous. These are great all-arounders
