"the best designers of my generation wrecked" Like led astray in terms of ideals of the craft, function over form? what do you think they mean here?

Good question. The best design solves problems, right? So if your “solution” is a midi synth styled as a medieval era instrument, it might look incredible but there’s really no problem here. You’re just making crap for the capitalist machine

And that’s the kicker — it looks great, it really does. But as the tweet says, it’s pure aesthetics, no substance. What’s the purpose

honestly, read like a banger at first... but the more I sit with it, sounds more like a hot take IMO it's quite reductive to boil all value that Apple and TE have contributed to society at large down to pure aesthetics, like there's no other real value there. More of a personal moral judgement about productivity, no? a critique of capitalism? They both certainly deliver magical experiences using cutting edge technologies. I personally take some inspiration from their craft alone. Applied Design, after all, is at best both usable and beautiful.
