users on X often get into circle-jerks when they agree on a controversial topic, and when you offer an opposing opinion they just go "okay weirdo" no point discussing publicly if you're not going to engage opposing views

Yup, and also be okay with actually accepting and incorporating the view of your adversary, when that feels like the right thing to do. Integrative thinking FTW!
