it baffles me that macbooks still don't have 5G receivers why do i need to use my phone as a hotspot?

I've thought about this for years - there does not seem to me material difficulty My conclusion is Machiavellian: companies like Apple (who can, but don't) don't do it because they fear selling less phones. Companies who could don't do it because it's an additional complexity and no one wants to go first

I was thinking the same but I thought that iPad sales was protected by Apple. I mean, I bought an iPad and not a McBook for the 5G thing.

It’s a classic case of protecting market dominance over user benefit. The hesitation to be the first mover only perpetuates stagnation in innovation.
