I always like this idea of trying to fail. Just think about it—try to make a bad painting, try to act badly, try to be lousy in a scene. It’s interesting. It puts the idea of striving for perfection in a different light. You’ve got to find ways to not worry and be free. If you're content to fail, or at least accept it somewhere, it helps. Being hard on yourself means constantly kicking yourself for not doing better. You’ve got to deal with this striving impulse, which can hurt you. You need just enough of it to get you moving and trying new things, but not so much that it suffocates you and makes you uptight. Put yourself in situations where you can't control things, right?

Super interesting, not a take I am familiar with or have thought of. Yet made sense. Intrigued.
