this is true. The first step to acquiring good taste is ingesting massive amounts of information about whatever field you’re looking to master. For a musician this is listening to tons of records, for a painter it’s looking at tons of art. A dilettante or poseur usually has a limited set of information to draw from

Looking / listening to 10,000 pieces is also probably more important (and easier, and quicker) than putting in 10,000 hours

It is. So acquiring taste is easier than acquiring mastery in said field. A lot of artists don’t do the former though for some reason.
