Last night, one of the patients in the psychiatric intensive care unit where I work told us how, at 16 years old, he first knocked out the man in his girlfriend鈥檚 bed with a log. Then he tied him up to keep him from moving and started cutting off his toes with a hacksaw. He explained that the guy was screaming at first but then stopped when he began sawing off his feet, because he was dead. I鈥檓 doing fine mentally, i'm working tonight, not even scared 馃槄

What? Wow, that is some heavy stuff. How is the patient doing now? I mean, there were some serious issues he had to address. Or is still addressing.

H茅 psychologically stable, but he doesn鈥檛 criticize his act of violence at all, as there are clearly psychopathic traits

Oof. Is that treatable? Or is he in the institution for ever?

antipsychotic treatment, he also has psychotic symptoms with hallucinations. we have no data on his legal follow-up , no institution for ever and no lifelong institution

Very heavy shit. Thank you for sharing about your work. I think it's great to read/hear/see about these things. It makes it more real.

This job is fascinating, even though sometimes certain patients have complicated life stories. We manage to face our small difficulties with greater confidence
