perspective on coding, vibe coding, coding: these are three overlapping areas in the “interesting things that software can do” space coding covers the entire space no code and vibe code are still relatively small but expanding at accelerating rates the entire space itself is rapidly expanding as new knowledge, technologies, and data come to light there are critical areas that require such detailed specification that coding them explicitly will remain the most efficient / practical way AIs augment all three: coders will benefit from better research and code generation for hard problems and rote tasks alike vibe coders will be able to create things faster and above their own skill level and high productivity in coding will drive more and better no code tools

the point that often seems to be missed is how these aren’t zero sum they are part of one accelerating system no code and vibe coders increase the value of the 10x engineers building something novel like snapchain since more things can add value on top of it and vice versa a public replicated social database makes increases the number of interesting things that can be vibe or no coded

One thing I was thinking about yesterday, curious to get your thoughts: The more people “on the fence” defect to vibe coding instead of learning and explicitly coding, the greater schlep blindness surface area increases Meaning, there is a whole category of apps that cannot be vibe coded (for quite a while), that now have even less competitive pressure — now an opportunity for great programmers to build a larger moat
