I was devastated by the WNC floods last year. Seeing the LA fires, I intellectually feel a similar sadness. But emotionally, I feel more detached since I’m less connected with the land Perhaps we must viscerally feel the anguish of climate volatility before we can solve it. Ie. it may be a crisis of the heart, not the mind

In September 2020 my kid was three months old and the air in Portland decided to turn poison (AQI>500) for a week. We couldn't drive anywhere because there was no reasonable way to filter the air in the car, and it was smokey in all directions for 100 or so miles. More and more people are going to be having these experiences.

I remember the 2020 wildfires and the “orange day” in San Francisco That experience of not breathing well for a week was tough, especially layered on top of Covid
