hmm i think there's more nuance here, no? advice != wisdom the latter is a subcategory wisdom holds true across long periods. but there's another type of common advice like "you should go to medical school instead of trying to be a youtuber" which isn't wisdom and can be wrong depending on time/context

Yeah I agree, but advice is also not *just* instruction I agree that instructions are less relevant than they were before But I’d also argue that instructions like “go to med school” were always bad and robbed kids of their agency

i wasn't quite framing "go to med school" as an instruction (you must), tho i guess that's the common context, but more as advice (you should) we agree "you must" is always bad also agree that bryan is wrong specifically wrt lumping in eternal advice (wisdom) with contextual, tho both of these fall under "you should" broad strokes he's wrong with former and right with the latter is where i am, and it doesn't seem like folks are necessarily conceding that to him

That's all fair, but is "dynamism gud" really a novel insight? Yes, things change faster than they ever did -- arguably more of a case to promote retention of wisdom and traditions of knowledge

what he said is way more specific than "dynamism gud", which takes out all the context and reduces it to a generic thing. yeah the generic thing isn't novel but the specific thing is, at least in the present moment, and also judging by all the responses he got. he may be trying to be provocative, but i don't remember any ADULT saying this in recent memory :) it's extremely existential now to keep trying to see the world with new eyes but my personal OS is to retain all the traditional wisdom that is eternal (to ground myself) and then update what needs to, particularly that which is contextual. this is NOT easy, i can say from practicing it. there's no playbook to doing it, you have to act like an executive. just anecdotal but this has been working out PHENOMENALLY for me, so this is what i "preach" to others if we're on the topic. tldr: you need to dynamically balance both
