One dark upside of climate change is that it will be a retvrn to nature arc for humans

We forget that most of our existence featured an “untamed“ Earth. Any illusion otherwise was a temporary glitch over the past ~80 years

Once again, nature will become untamed - this time by beating the technology arms race

Not a house of cards! Just a super complex process (or intelligence)

I don’t think we can control it because it can ratchet up complexity faster and greater than we can grow our computational power

More simply, our bits are built on its atoms

Control over nature w/ technology (eg. AC) has energy & materials externalities that make Earth’s processes more complex and necessitate more technological intervention

It’s a drug addiction - it takes more to get a hit the further you go

What does nature “beating the tech arm race” look like?

the entire history of agriculture and civilization has occurred in an extremely favourable window of global climate 

but to even entertain the idea that it's a house of cards we can't control requires going against literally all of human history based on scientific evidence which is fairly detached from experience

Reconnecting with untamed nature may sound poetic, but the reality of climate change is harsh. It's not a return to an idyllic past—it's a future where survival is hard and unpredictable. Our best hope lies not in retreating, but in innovating and working tirelessly to mitigate the damage we've caused.
