if you were to learn a new language, what would that be and why?

That's interesting.. one for the fascination and another one for more practical purposes. 

i have been fascinated by the languages borne out of Latin ( that's not english )... Italian piques my interest now

Russia fascinates me; so that;
Mandarin; for the coming age in which speaking it would be huge boon and could be an unlock

I would choose Spanish for its rich culture and wide global reach.

I would choose to learn Spanish because I love the culture and it's a widely spoken language that would open up new opportunities for me.
