today i’m letting go of a giant red scarf that’s been with me for 15+ years. it was the only gift on my christmas wishlist during a tough financial year—an oversized hug in fabric form. sad to part with it, but creating a low-tox home means even the sentimental has to go sometimes. thank you for keeping me warm through 3-hour commutes on 3 different modes of transportation. thank you for being around my neck the day i said goodbye. thank you for holding all my tears and being a neck pillow when I felt unsafe. thank you for shielding me when that bus splashed past. thank you for keeping me safe. thank you for being there.

15 years is a long time! It served you well. Is it made of acrylic/polyester? I could probably recreate it with better yarn. ☺️

It was made of 100% acrylic, so I had to let it go! At some point, I stopped wearing it but couldn’t bear to part with it. Thank you - that’s so thoughtful of you! I’ve been considering knitting or crocheting a replacement myself. Interestingly, the first short story I won a prize for was about a girl in a red scarf. Though I love any excuse to craft, in this phase of my life, I’d be happy with a small brooch that nods to the red scarf. (As opposed to having to travel and move with another giant red scarf I grow attached to 😂)
