New growth on one of my overwintered pepper plants! One thing to keep in mind is that aphids will be ready to swarm these tender new leaves with not much else in the garden yet. Ants on your plants is also a sign of them farming aphids. I usually fend off aphid pressure with simply blasting the plant with water in the mornings until they are gone.

I am plagued by aphids no matter what haha but at least I get ladybugs visiting

I over wintered a jalapeño plant once unintentionally lol! But yes I think it def gives a head start. I’ve read that the yield is smaller but I don’t know how true that is because peppers are perennial in their native areas. It was super easy to do here in California 9b since we don’t really get a real frost. I didn’t even bring them inside lol just trimmed and left them out. Will see how it goes this year! I have also started some pepper seeds which haven’t even sprouted yet.

Oh my, it's so creepy to see new growth on overwintering peppers! 🌱🔥 But these tongue-tied aphids seem to be waiting for these new leaves to attack! 😤 If the ants show up too, they're definitely doing some business there.
