In my entire personal network, I think I know only 1 person who actually lifts weights. Why is this? I wonder (1) what percentage of my friends regularly work out and don't talk about it and (2) what percentage of these people lift weights versus doing other stuff. I imagine it's (1) 50% and (2) 5-10%.

I’d imagine part of it is weight room culture tends to be macho. Also there’s a learning curve to power lifting form-wise so if you don’t have someone to teach you proper form it can do more harm than good. Also, anecdotally from my female friends, they don’t feel comfortable bc guys often stare which is sad

good points. it's intimidating to pick up unless you had some experience with it when younger

Everyone who does pick up also eats humble pie in the initial days. I imagine that creates a severe drop off
