I really dislike the “nobody reads anymore” take. Feels manufactured by those who make money off of you spending time-on-platform to watch their videos.

Sure, not everyone is sitting down reading longform writing or a book every day. 

But plenty of people do! And others are happy to read short form if it’s of interest (Twitter!).

One of the most shocking things I've learned since getting into the business side of the publishing industry is that people DO read, including books, more than ever. Distribution channels and tried-and-true marketing techniques are shifting, but people reading has not changed

I should clarify, it was shocking because you hear "indie bookstores are dying, nobody reads anymore" etc etc. If I had looked around me at what people are doing and bookstores appearing and thriving all around, and really considered that reality, I would not have been shocked!

Completely agree people are consuming text in very different ways! Ebooks and short form social media of course but also in-between length: newsletters and forums.

How much of that reading is done digitally now versus print, though? Reading may not have changed much- i think people are reading less but would love to see some concrete studies of this- but people are definitely consuming text in different ways now.
