In ktown there’s an awesome practice range. I’ll suggest just giving a try on the practice ranges before hitting the field

Outdoor range or indoor screen simulator rentals at places like Golf Galaxy and Dicks Sporting Goods. I wouldn’t shell out money on lessons right away, have a friend give you a few basic tips or google it. Then try a par 3 course on a weekday.

At the range tbh. Start with learning to hit an iron. If you’re looking for a course Penmar is supposed to be fun, I’ve never played there myself though

I'm analytical so I got a coach who focuses on mechanics & sequence via simulator at Neuroforce Golf in Culver. Otherwise, definitely go to the range with a coach. My recommendation is to get a coach. Fastest way to learn. Do a class and then practice more on our own, then do a class again - type of process. On demand style. Penmar is probably too much (higher than expected difficulty) even tho it's flat. They also have nets only range - I'd wait. Westchester is a big range and great to learn. Range is packed Fri-Sunday. Rancho is great also. Has a nice thin 9-hole & 18. Alondra is wonderful but a little more south. Big, friendly, nice range, 9-hole and 18. Spend time practicing chipping and putting as well. They will save your game and give you something else to do if the range is packed. DC me and we can practice also if you want a practice friend. *Be wary of random advice at the range. We all have different swings that match our style & body. Some people can't help but give tips.

Would recommend buying a cheap starter set online or from Roger Dunn. Used will be more than fine. Get at least a wedge, couple irons, and a wood/driver. Recommend hitting range or getting a few lessons until you can consistently hit the ball straight. Might take a couple months of range, but don't get discouraged!
