I often think about the people on the coasts of medieval England and France, who would’ve heard about the Viking raiders attacking towns ever closer, but just hung out waiting anyways.

I’d you were a serf, you needed either your landlord’s or church’s permission to move to another town… so I guess most wouldn’t have had a choice
