1) It's a large efficiency improvement, but I'm not sure how well using partial params plays out with multiple models running/competing for RAM/compute. 2) It's a very direct attack on the American intelligence market by China. 3) I am not switching to it from O1 in Cursor, for example. I'll try it, but like, ugh, idk, read #2 again. I don't think OpenAI will die. Guys like DWR have been anti-Sam since the start. Losing OpenAI for DeepSeek as our main connection would be tragic, imo. It's a new, really good, and cool model, but it's definitely getting full attention atm. I think we'll pass them up with another major innovation soon. Until then, I assume China wants to know how Americans think, work, and their phone data where available. TLDR: It's really great that something competitive with O1 was made open-source, and it was better than all pre-existing open-source models. O1 is old now, though.
