Onchain Social isn’t about replacing platforms like X. It’s about building something that in principle can’t exist on X. What’s one thing Farcaster can enable that no Web2 platform ever could? I'd say one thing Farcaster enables is composability, something no Web2 platform can replicate. Apps and protocols building on top of your profile, content, and interactions, rather than locking them in. Your followers, posts, and reputation move with you, instead of being trapped in a walled garden. Real-World Example: 1. Warpcast (X-like) – You build your audience here. 2. New App Launches (e.g., Farcaster TikTok) – It instantly recognises your profile, followers, and reputation. You don’t need to rebuild from zero. 3. Developers Build Cool Features – "Top Farcaster creators", let you monetise all content, using the same base identity and data. This wouldn’t be possible on X, because they own your data. Farcaster flips that, you own your network, and apps compete to serve you better.

Right The social graph + Features on top are really powerful and make it smooth to try new things Examples: @rodeodotclub built their first prototypes using fc graph, result was you had connections when trying the app (=content, things to do from second 1)

The moment I realized this interoperability the most was when I posted a Frame v1 link in Converse (xmtp chat app) and it just worked because they followed the open frames standard.

I think farcaster will become more when it starts to be used not as an X-like clone but for something different built on top of the protocol. And don't get me wrong, I don't use X anymore. Warpcast is amazing.

Bluesky/ATproto also shares these abilities, but the builder community is quite young and there’s not a ton of stuff out there. There is an IG-like image app in beta, for example. Which is to say that web2 is perfectly capable of composability, it’s just X and Meta et al choose not to allow it for the sake of their business model. Web3 is unnecessary for the technical part of that. What web3 brings mostly is financial transactions and other things that can be built on tokens (membership, reputation, etc).

Agree with the composability, but do you feel like that lends a benefit to newer accounts rather than those established already on alternative platforms? I think initially it was all about getting people to come over from X or whatever, but is a better value prop getting started on Warpcast instead starting over? Does the next generation of creators start here rather than discover this later?

Yup composability. It’s a big snowball at the top of a hill. It’s hard to get going at first. Once it hits a critical threshold of users and your same social graph can be exported to video platforms, local social, dating apps etc it will roll down the hill faster and faster growing in size the whole time. It will be really cool to see what evolves around the graph. Owning your audience is huge too. Sucks to start over if you’ve got a good following elsewhere, but at least you’ll never have to do it again. Because you own that relationship with your audience.
