“How long will it be around?” is almost my single-issue driver of tech adoption decisions. Everything else is secondary, including features, UX, etc. It’s even upstream of good/evil judgments. I’m likely to pragmatically adopt a platform even if it strikes me as evil, if I think it will be around long term in a consequential way that I have to adapt to. Looking back, my fairly early decision to effectively abandon twitter was at least as much based on the assessment that it was becoming inconsequential as it was based on the observation that it was becoming a snake pit of right-wing edgelords farming engagement among tedious Bronze Age larpers. But if I’d felt it was going to remain as consequential as it once was, I’d have stayed active and tried to figure out an against-the-grain pattern of use. It just didn’t seem worth the continued investment.

This is weirdly reassuring. I left twitter out of necessity. I'm very happy there is a skin in the game analysis by someone who also believes it is becoming impotent.
