I dropped philosophy in first year of uni when I was 18 because I just didn’t grok it. I just didn’t get the key intellectual levers that writers were trying to pull. When I graduated a few years later and read philosophy for my own sake, it dawned on me that I really was just too young for it. I do think you actually need some context, either from life experience or philosophical exposure, to really participate in philosophy.
