Question for the experienced runners here: I ran my first sub 2:00 half marathon in March and finished my first marathon in 5:00 a week ago (trained for 4:20 - 4:30 pace but bonked hard). I have 5 months to my next marathon, is sub 4:00 a realistic goal?

def not experienced enough to answer precisely, but any thoughts on reason behind your bonk? did you go out too fast, how many times have you done 20+ mile runs, did you have sufficient fueling during the race? pacing/fueling (assuming no gut issues) may be easier to take on

I think I was ok on fuel (50g carbs per hour) but pacing was def an issue. Went out too fast + didn’t pace well on the early uphill sections. I had just one 20+ mile run, 3 weeks out from the race before the taper.

that’s good. i think being mindful of taking the first half easy, and increasing mileage in your next build should prob give a decent shot!
