random sunday morning thinking about app stores and how the distribution dynamic always ends up being a power law for the apps at the top of the leaderboard then associated this to social media apps/clients (ex. warpcast): - 🚾 = app store - accounts/users = apps - a frequent complaint i see is smaller accounts don't feel very visible unless centralized authority provides a curation boost, as is the case in app stores too would custom algorithms, being "anti-feed" even resolve this (3rd party app stores do exist, not sure how successful)? or is there opportunity for alt clients to differentiate and disrupt?

Right now the feed is global recent casts across higher quality accounts! We opted this way to give more visibility to smaller accounts

what you using to determine 'higher quality'?

We currently look at the cast engagement and author to loosely determine if the cast is not spam

nice, so your own 'blend'? also, does that mean casts with no engagement won't appear in the feed until there's engagement?

Essentially casts with no engagement would need to come from someone with followers to immediately show up on our feed - we have some tuning based on the cast metadata. We did that algorithm a very long time ago and it's been okay for now - definitely a lot of room for improvements with e.g. ML!
