"Sontag came out of hiding, Grier came out of hiding and suddenly people realized how interesting I am...' That little smirk. Ouch! Camille Paglia on Susan Sontag! :O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFgYcVbAaNs

hmm it's going to be hard to shoehorn what i have to say in a single, necessarily superficial cast. i've read Sontag and i've read Paglia, and they are from (only slightly) different eras. they shouldn't have to compete. as i smirk, i blame capitalism, the entertainment culture & the patriarchy.

Yes, like you, I have read both and respect them both, too, from different perspectives. I esp adore Sontag's early writing. I knew that this post might whip things up and I appreciate your slant. You make a good point about patriarchy being an antagonist. However, I do think Paglia is spot on about Sontag's end career and it needs to be said - she did loose her shine appealing to certain quarters. On another note, If I didn't know better I might assume Paglia had done a line of cocaine because she is firing high on something (her arrogance?) and way out of herself, and for this reason this video is somewhat compelling even if her attitude is a little suspect (Sontag's is not much better) and designed for the spectacle.
