This study about social media and mental health showed that when people used social media more intentionally with specific practices, their mental health was about the same as people who abstained entirely The practices: Quality over quantity Mute or unfollow accounts that trigger envy or self comparison Prioritize close friendships Send DMs or comment on posts instead of active scrolling Not too surprising but it sounds very similar to how we talk about farcaster https://scitechdaily.com/new-study-reveals-the-secret-to-using-social-media-without-the-stress/

Look forward to the read. Reminds me what I teach my children as they are making their debut into social media “make sure to balance your consumption with creation, it’s ok to watch and peruse —to consume— as long as you are also speaking, crafting, creating —creating— ”

Thank you for sharing. Really interesting topic. Anecdotally, when I first started using FC after a several year hiatus from social media, I definitely felt a surge of mental health increase. It was a mission to find my cozy corners. Sometimes these days it becomes more passive browsing and I notice unplacable FOMO creep in on the edges of my consciousness. All that to say that my experience aligns with these takeaways.
