Listening to blood meridian. Honestly, I do not know if I could read it to myself. The language is so over the top, but having it read to me is a pleasure.

for me it was scary. the violence, like scalping, described in detail. intense. i put it down and never came back to it.

I think it being an audiobook also helps in this regard as well, especially that I was on a long drive, so basically can just let it flow past you. Reading it yourself somehow makes you more complicit with the material.
