Proposing the term "Ecosystem Goods" Why EGs? Just like we have consumer goods for individuals, and commercial goods for businesses, "Ecosystem Goods" reflects the level of societal organization at which the good is valued (and funded) For example, consumers may value smartphones, businesses value machinery, and ecosystems value unbiased journalism. Individuals on their own are unlikely to come together and fund the production of machinery - for that you need a higher level of coordination, which businesses can provide. Similarly, individuals or businesses on their own are unlikely to come together and fund the ecosystem good of unbiased journalism (and there would be questions about their motives) - for that you need a higher level of coordination, which ecosystems can provide.

Good idea. In the thread following Vitalik's piece you suggested "public domain," which could also work, but I like "ecosystem goods" even better.

I like the visual ๐Ÿ˜ and the idea๐Ÿ’ก but the line that individuals and business will voluntarily come together to fund anything like unbiased journalism long term is simply not true โ€ฆ such idealistic scenario doesnโ€™t exist imho Humans (and businesses) are by nature transactional in exchanging value. There are exceptions and but they donโ€™t apply in any other moment than in moments of perceived abundance, then they stop
