“Iranian media reported that Iran has requested advanced air-defense systems from Russia as it prepares for a possible war with Israel. Two Iranian officials familiar with the war planning, one a member of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, confirmed that Iran has made the request and said Russia has started delivering advanced radars and air-defense equipment. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the aid publicly.” Air defense is Iran’s greatest weakness but I’m skeptical that Russia would provide such support on this front absent other confirming information. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/08/05/world/israel-iran-hezbollah-gaza/russian-emissary-visits-tehran-at-a-tense-moment-as-iran-asks-for-military-aid?smid=url-share

I'm also skeptical. Israel mostly avoided helping Ukraine in the war with Russia. If Russia provides Iran with air defense, Israel would likely start helping Ukraine with Iron Done/other systems. Interestingly enough, I believe it was the first Israel-Lebanon War (1982) when Western military tech was shown to be supreme over modern Soviet tech, when Syria lost 29 SAM batteries and 60 jets without a single Israeli loss. Not sure if Russia really wants its S-300/S-400s tested vs today's Western jets (though that may happen in Ukraine also)

Israel tried to remain neutral for awhile but the pressure became too much and now they’re arming and training UA forces. That said they still want to have some ties with Russia and likewise due to large and influential Russian Jewish diaspora in Israel. You might enjoy the book “Armies of Sand” by Kenneth Pollack which gets into some of the reasons for the military failures in that war. In his view it was a command culture issue
