~50% of people don’t have an inner monologue. do you? when does it happen, or is it 24/7?

imo, this can’t be true. everyone has an inner monologue, which is the ego focused on survival. it processes this through constant evaluation. its evolutionary function. how you direct /relate to it is a different matter, usually one of deliberate practice. michael singer, or loch kelly’s work for more about this

I wouldn’t be so sure, there’s plenty of people out there who cannot visualize ideas either — I’m one of the unfortunate ones with aphantasia who for the longest time thought people meant to “imagine X” metaphorically or philosophically, not literally.

statistic is based on estimation by Russell Hurlburt at UNLV (hurlburt.faculty.unlv.edu) cc @courtlandleer Hurlburt distinguishes between inner speaking (voice) vs. other aspects of a holistic inner experience (seeing, sensory, etc). my Q was specific to inner speaking (monologue: long "speech"). agree with you on ^^
