ooh thanks, this is the review I was looking for. I just finished a gentlemen in moscow which spoiled me with a character reflection of post revolutionary Russia and now I need to know everything.

I first read it back in college. I found it deeply chilling and authentic. It expanded my world view on morality, the complexity of mankind, and the precariousness of human rights protections.

I finished the first volume last year. It’s quite readable and comes off as an honest account of a man who experienced it all. I hope to read the other volumes at some point.
