With the stolen valor claim, it's apples and oranges. None of the people saying Vance fucked a couch actually believes he fucked a couch, and they don't expect anyone else to believe he fucked a couch. It's pure mockery, based on the fact that he kind of seems like the kind of guy who would have fucked a couch, even though we all know he didn't.

The stolen valor / swiftboating is completely different. It's a deliberate attempt at convincing voters to believe the lie that Walz behaved dishonorably, even though he didn't. It needs to be called out as bullshit.
